Market Update for Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, Maryland for week ending June 21, 2008

The market made some adjustments this week and remains stable with normal seasonal adjustments, with more buyers searching for their first or next home.  This week showed a jump in the number of homes listed.  This could be partly due to the fact that school is now out and folks are looking to move before the beginning of the next school year.  The weather has finally improved to summer heat but here in Maryland remains wet and I think this may be having some effect on the number of home buyers looking for new homes.  The number of new listings has increased and the number of homes going under contract has also increased.  The numbers boast an improvement in the housing market here in Maryland.  There is speculation though that this increase in market activity is just due to seasonal adjustments though rather than market conditions and the reduction in the federal lending rates.  It will be interesting to see how this all changes with the changes in the FHA and Jumbo loan limits and adjustments in the interest rates.  Overall, it's still a great time to buy.

These figures are taken directly from our MRIS system and are believed to be accurate.

The Power of Social Networking

What is social networking?  It is the connection of communities of people who are interested in similar things, the connecting of people with similar ideas and similar interests according to Wikipedia.

Social networking is vastly under rated, in my opinion.

A few weeks ago I joined a mini group within my quilt guild.  My goal had nothing to do with real estate, but rather, it had to do with meeting with a group of people who had similar interests to myself.  We meet the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month to talk about quilting, share our projects and inspire one another.  But, in the process I am about to gain a new listing of a large lot of land with building permits and architectural plans for a new home.  And, I've completed 4 quilt tops, planned a couple new projects and am finishing up 4 other projects.  So, joining has inspired me to quilt more but, it has also improved my business.  Wow!!

What other venues are out there for real estate agents?  What is your passion?  What are your hobbies?  When you first join a new group what is the first thing they ask you?  Of course, it's what do you do?  What is your profession?  Take every pportunity to discuss what it is you do for a living.  You will be amazed at how quickly your business will grow.

Real estate is a 24/7 career, you don't turn it off when you leave the office, you don't turn it off when you walk into the grocery store, or pick your kids up from school.

I volunteered for career day at my sons school and talked to groups of 4th and 5th graders about being a real estate professional.  I visited again on Math Workshop and talked to them about how I use math in my job and I visited for Writers Workshop day to talk about how I use writing in my job.  All these are opportunities to get in front of the parents with handouts in class.

Do you have a name tag?  Do you wear it all the time or just when you are meeting with clients.  Your clients already know who you are, why do you need your name tag then?  Wear it always, everywhere you go, remind everyone that you are a realtor, a real estate professional.

Join a group, it doesn't have to be a real estate group, join the gym, take a night class, get a hobby, join a guild etc.  Take every opportunity to get in front of people who enjoy doing the same kinds of things you do and you will be amazed at how much your business will benefit and also how much you will grow as a person in the process.

Market Update for Week Ending May 31, 2008

The market stabilized some more t his week, with more buyers searching for their first or next home and fewer sellers listing their homes for sale.  This week is the first week where we've seen a huge decline in the number of home owners listing their homes for sale.  The weather has been very wet and I think this may be having some effect on the number of home buyers looking for new homes.
