Market Update for Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, Maryland for week ending July 26, 2008

The market remains stable with some normal seasonal adjustments, with a few more buyers searching for their first or next home.  The weather has finally improved to summer heat and people are thinking about vacations and I think this may be having some effect on the number of home buyers looking for new homes.  The number of new listings has increased and the number of homes going under contract has also increased.  The numbers boast an improvement in the housing market here in Maryland.  There is speculation though that this increase in market activity is just due to seasonal adjustments though rather than market conditions and the reduction in the federal lending rates.  It will be interesting to see how this all changes with the changes in the FHA and Jumbo loan limits and adjustments in the interest rates.  Overall, it's still a great time to buy.

These figures are taken directly from our MRIS system and are believed to be accurate.

230 Mallow Hill Road, Baltimore, MD 21229

Just Listed!!

230 Mallow Hill Road, Baltimore, MD 21229

Beautiful 4 bedroom 3 bathroom single family home in Baltimore's Westgate Community.  Located just inside the Baltimore City line in West Baltimore, this home is conveniently located close to public transportation into the City or close to Halethorpe for the MARC train to DC.  This is also a very convenient location within just a few short miles to Ft. Meade.

Westgate is a welcoming, active and diverse community with homes situated in rolling hills featuring mature tree canopy and narrow streets with sidewalks.   The community is comprised primarily single family homes of medium size (1000-3000 sq. ft) consisting of a wide variety of styles.  Types include Bungalow, Colonial, Tudor, American Four-Square, Cape Cod, and Spanish Revival.  The majority of homes were constructed during the 1920's and 1930's and feature hardwood floors- many with walnut inlays- fireplaces and stained glass windows.  Westgate was one of the first subdivisions in the West Baltimore/Catonsville area.   Westgate was considered a 'trolley community' due to its proximity to the Ellicott City line which then ran on present day Edmondson Ave.  The community association was established in 1931.

This home was built in 1923 and still retains many of it's original features, including the inlay wood floors, large living room with wood burning fireplace, exposed beam ceiling and the room bathed in natural daylight through it's many windows.  The living room is spacious with lots of room for family gatherings and/or entertaining.

The traffic pattern flows extremely well from the wide front door through the living room to either the kitchen to the right by the stairs or through the living area to the large dining room.  The stairs area located to the right of the front door and feature the original woodwork.

The large formal dining room is located behind the living room and is the gateway to the first of four bedrooms.  The dining room is spacious and large enough for a large dining table and chairs and a china cabinet.

To the rear of the dining room is a large bedroom that is ideal for a home office or for a guest room or extended family.  This room has a nice walk in closet and a smaller second closet.  One of the truly nice features about this house is that there is a full bathroom conveniently located on each floor.

To the right of the dining room is a large kitchen.  The kitchen still has the original wood floors.  There is plenty of counter and cupboard space in this kitchen and a storage pantry in the hall to the living room.  The kitchen features built in microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, gas stove and refrigerator.  To the rear of the kitchen is a nice mudroom with an outside entrance from the rear patio, yard and detached garage.  The kitchen is large enough for a small table.

Upstairs you'll find three spacious bedrooms, all with hardwood floors.  The master bedroom is located to the rear of the house with it's own private balcony/covered deck.   What a great way to finish off a hectic day - enjoying the peaceful evening sounds.  Or a great way to start the day with your morning coffee listening to the world around you coming to life.  The covered deck overlooks a lovely shaded rear yard.

The rear yard is secluded and private and features a brick patio, perfect for summer barbecques and plenty of room for outdoor activities.

The detached one car garage is accessible from the rear alley and has a small storage area.

This is a great home with many great features and retains much of it's heritage.

Market Update for the week ending June 28, 2008 for Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County, Maryland

The market made some adjustments this week and remains stable with normal seasonal adjustments, with more buyers searching for their first or next home.  This week showed a jump in the number of homes listed.  This could be partly due to the fact that school is now out and folks are looking to move before the beginning of the next school year.  The weather has finally improved to summer heat but here in Maryland remains wet and I think this may be having some effect on the number of home buyers looking for new homes.
