Attitude of Gratitude
I have been on a journey of self improvement over the past year. This improvement is taking many forms including my health and more importantly my attitude.
Having a positive attitude isn’t always easy but as I look at the world around me I am grateful for so many things. I am grateful for the people in my life - my family and my friends (if you are reading this you know who you are), especially those who have bestowed many great gifts of wisdom on me and encouraged me to be more than I have been.
I am grateful for the opportunities to help others. I have so many gifts to offer. Wisdom, a big heart and a big hug, words of encouragement. You never know what another is going through until you listen to their stories.
I am grateful for good health. I have been so lucky. Very recently a good friend of mine was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. He is a single dad, his wife passed away with breast cancer 8 years ago and he is raising 2 sons on his own. These boys are 1 year on either side of my youngest son. I am grateful for the health I have and now I am even more keen to preserve that through healthy eating, getting the proper rest and getting regular medical care.
I am grateful for having a warm home and a roof over my head. I have paying guests staying in my home and it’s not always convenient but it helps financially and allows me to stay in a nicer home in a nicer neighborhood than I could have afforded otherwise. I look around me and I see more homeless people than I’ve seen in the past, more people living in tents and under over passes than I remember seeing in the past.
So, as this day of Thanks draws to a close I am reminded that I have it pretty good and I have a gift to share with anyone who would listen or who would care to share their story with me and hopefully, I can instill in them how important it is to be grateful for what we have. So, in this coming year I wish you all enough and that you may share those gifts bestowed on you with others around you and make a difference in your world, if by only smiling and offering a hug or an ear for a story.
