What is a City Living Starts Here Home Buying Incentive?

What is a City Living Starts Here Home Buying Incentive?

City Living Starts Here is a quarterly event hosted by Live Baltimore where potential home buyer participants can be entered into a lottery to be awarded a $5,000 forgiveable loan.  There are 5 of these awards available at every City Living Starts Here event.

So, how do you qualify?

Firstly you have to be a first time home buyer, that is, you can not currently own a home and have not owned a home for over 3 years or have never owned a home in the State of Maryland and currently don't own a home.

Secondly, you have to have completed a home buyer education class and one on one counseling with a housing counsellor at an accredited agency for Baltimore City.  I can refer you to one or you can complete this online and have done your one on one counseling.

There are a few restrictions, a complete list can be found here:

  • The mortgage amount can not be more than $417,000
  • It has to be your principle residence.
  • Co-signers, owner financing and cash purchases are not permitted.
  • Short sales, foreclosures and new construction do not qualify.
  • Home buyer must invest $1000 of their own money
  • The home must be within the City of Baltimore

This is one of the few incentives that does not have an income restriction for home buyers and it can be used in conjunction with other home buying incentives.
