Cups is so much more than just another place to get a cup of coffee.
I had the good fortune to meet Holly, one of the owners of Cups a few weeks ago and we talked about the great things Cups is doing for the disconnected youth of Baltimore City. I had to go check it out for myself. I was in the neighborhood today and I'm glad I had a chance to stop in and have lunch.
What a great little shop, located at 1301 N. Broadway just up the street from Johns Hopkins Hospital campus. Jordan served me today, what a charming young man with a ready smile and a desire to please.
I had a bacon lettuce and tomato wrap and a cup of Zeke's coffee (another local Baltimore company). The coffee is self serve so you can make it just the way you want it. The service was quick and the wrap was delicious. The bacon was crispy and just the way I like it and very plentiful and the wrap was nice and tight so it didn't fall apart in my hand and packed full and I had a choice of sides of apple, greens or chips.
Cups is open from 6 am to 4pm Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 8am to 2pm. They are closed on Sundays.
Cups works in partnership with Project I Can to provide workforce development for disconnected youth living in Baltimore City. Project I Can is a 501 C 3 charity whose main focus is to help young people aged 16 to 24 living in or attending school in Baltimore City who are experiencing employment barriers that could include former incarceration, poverty and low education attainment.
Project I CAN is a workforce development program that offers 2 tracks, Intro Track (IT) and Career Track (CT). All interns are required to complete IT, a 48 hour introduction class that prepares interns for the Serve Safe Manager/Handler Certification exam. If interns successfully complete IT and pass the Serve Safe exam they will be offered an opportunity to apply for CT, a year long paid internship with CUPs Coffeehouse. During CT interns focus on job skills, life skills, and leadership development.
Cups also caters, so you can order for your next office function and you'll be helping someone gain valuable employment and life skills. More than just another coffee house!!
