Ramblings of a Baltimore area Realtor: Brrr... it's Drafty

Brrr... it's Drafty

Brrr... It's Drafty!!

I have had a mouse infestation in my house this fall.  A good friend of mine is an Exterminator for live animals like rodents, foxes, and other 4 legged critters so, I asked him to come over and take a look.  He told me we had at least 4 families of mice present and probably 14 or so mice in the house at present.  Yikes!!  We had already caught 4 or 5 in the snap traps but I kept seeing mice in my third floor bedroom and it was starting to freak me out a little when everytime I was sitting in the bathroom a little critter would come around the corner.  He found one entry point around the exhaust for my furnace.  I made an appointment for him to come back during daylight hours.  The next visit he found 7 entry points into my house from outside.  Part of his service is sealing up the entry points and then laying bait and tracking powder.

It's been 2 weeks now and we have only seen 1 mouse and we caught him yesterday in a snap trap.  I am sure there is more than just one but, some nights it sounded like a mouse party was going on in some parts of my house and my room mate downstairs could hear them running back and forth across the ceiling in her room, now it is silent.

He will be back today to check the bait and powder and make sure there are no new entry points.

But, as an aside note, my laundry room is much warmer.  There were 4 entry points into that area alone and we were able to turn down the little space heater we run in the basement.  So, now that winter is looming be sure to check around all your windows and doors, exhaust points, gas and water entry points to your home and seal them off.  It could save you money on your heating bill.
