Healthy Neighborhoods is a non-profit founded in 2004, it was set up to help strong but undervalued Baltimore neighborhoods increase home values, market their communities, and create high standards for property improvements.
Healthy Neighborhoods include:
Coldstream Homestead Montebello
Garwyn Oaks, Hanlon, Howard Park
North Central Baltimore - including Ednor Gardens Lakeside, Waverly Village, Charles Village, Remington, Barclay and Old Goucher
Healthy Neighborhoods oversees a $30.5 million private loan fund and provides special below market loans to home buyers and homeowners to encourage investment and renovation. There are a few different loan scenarios depending on the property and the buyers individual needs:
Purchase & Renovate - buying a home in one of Baltimore’s Healthy Neighborhoods, offers a loan to help the buyer with renovating or updating the new home. This could be adding central air, replacing windows, water proofing and finishing the basement just to name a few.
Refinance - This is for existing homeowners who already live in a Healthy Neighborhood on a target block and allows them to refinance an existing loan and add additional funds to update their home, which could include those same renovations mentioned above.
Home Improvement - This is for existing homeowners who live within the boundaries of a Healthy Neighborhood but not on a target block. This is a loan to complete some renovation. Homeowners can borrow between $5,000 and $20,000 to put in a new kitchen, replace a bathroom, update windows, put in new mechanical systems or any combination.
If you would like to get started on your home search in any of these neighborhoods I am happy to help you get started and talk to you about your options. For more information about updating your existing home contact Healthy Neighborhoods directly.
